THE MODERN CHURCH BUILDING

This article begins with an analysis of the two styles of the contemporary church buildings: 1) Modern Christian Expressionism style; 2) Indigenous Christian style.

Concerning about the Modern Christian Expressionism buildings, the writer describes the influences by the changing styles from the Modernism to the Post-modernism. The writer analyses the symbolism exterior of the buildings, the light inside the building, the central plan designs, the symbolic designs for the exterior cross, the multi-function designs etc.

The article then explores the Christian Indigenous buildings, particularly describes thedifferences among Asian area. Finally, the article explores the development of Chinese church buildings, and point out the main problem for Chinese new church building design is that until now most Chinese church designs still following the New-Gothic style.
